The American Society of Pharmacovigilance announced their official launch today. The organization is founded by Benjamin Brown of Dynamic Life Sciences, MD Anderson alum, Sara Rogers and Tanner Vick of Rise Health Solutions.
The American Society of Pharmacovigilance is a national biomedical and healthcare network with membership open to all healthcare professionals. Their mission is to rapidly and dramatically reduce the high rate of suffering and mortality due to adverse drug events. The Society seeks to unify different areas of expertise and bring increased focus to fourth leading cause of death in the US.
Due to the tremendous economic burden of adverse drug events on the US healthcare system, with estimates around $136 billion annually, the Society is making plans for accelerated action in developing their programs. Their programming includes educational and awareness initiatives, development of an open access journal in pharmacovigilance, leveraging tools and technologies that can aid in the tracking, monitoring and prevention of adverse drug events as well as strategic collaborations with health systems around the US.
